Benzo Addiction, Treatment and Rehabs

Due to the innate danger of benzo withdrawal, it is both wise and recommended to get help and guidance throughout the process. Rehabilitation centers specialize in these cases, and it usually begins with inpatient treatment to make sure the patient will be okay on their own.

Like so many other controlled substances, benzo rehab seems simple at face value, but it is an uphill battle for any patient.

To get started, contact your local Rehabilitation Center and schedule the process. From there, the patient has options between outpatient care and inpatient care.

Inpatient Benzo Rehab

Inpatient benzo rehab is also called residential treatment. It is done in a controlled, medically supervised environment to better assist a patient recover from their addiction. Patients are given 24-hour access to medication, medical support and supervision.

However, they cannot access any benzos for which they don’t have a prescription, even if they’re feeling desperate. Those with severe addiction should carefully consider inpatient care.

The good news is that the success rate for inpatient benzo treatment is high. However, as with any extended medical undertakings, there needs to be preparation and the ability to schedule the time needed. For example, the patient will need to discuss options with their employer and, if they have a family, they will need to make the proper arrangements to see that they are cared for.

Rehabilitation may also include the necessity for travel. It should be noted that rehab programs typically take several weeks and may even take several months.

Life at a rehab facility is highly structured and patients are constantly under watch. Some patients might find this uncomfortable, while others will experience a state of security. This can be comforting and may or may not cause difficulties when it comes to returning to every day, less structured life. With that in mind, inpatient and outpatient options should be carefully weighed, and the individual needs of the patient carefully assessed.

Outpatient Benzo Rehab

Outpatient care allows patients to live at home and work normally, but they must also spend enough time making sure they get the proper treatment; typical programs require 10-12 hours per day. This may cause some patients to lose work hours or require them to get assistance making sure everything is good at home, which means a good support network is critical.

Outpatient care mirrors inpatient treatment in terms of medication, mental help and other such support. Outpatient treatment should really only be used in the case of milder addictions. Outpatient programs typically last between three and six months.

If used improperly, benzos can create potentially deadly addictions with short-term and long-term impacts. With a high-risk factor involved with addiction and the subsequent withdrawal, patients addicted to benzos truly need outside help to overcome their addiction. Even if abuse of the drugs is not immediately apparent, it is best to get off the drug as soon as possible and under proper medical supervision.
